Managing Your Expectations
The questions we are initially asked include:
- “What makes you different from national placement agencies?”
- “How much does it cost to move into a senior living community?”
- “How do you find the right place for me?”
- “What is ‘downsizing’ and how do I do it?”
- “What is the process for hiring a senior placement service?”
At Neighborly Senior Placement, our concierge-level services to seniors and their families are absolutely free. The community that we help you select pays Neighborly Senior Placement a percentage of your first month fee.
Our Proprietary Senior Living Placement Process
First and foremost, Neighborly Senior Placement provides guidance and advice for your next move, depending on your choice of lifestyle, your specific care needs, your preferred geographic locations, and especially your budget.
We ask specific questions to help families like yours find the perfect community vs. what you can find doing Google searches. Our process includes these areas to determine when to refer yourself or a loved one:
- We start with an initial call with the family or the senior where we assess each client’s health, financial, and social needs.
- We focus on the importance of listening first: asking about your current lifestyle, activities, health history, and diet. Has anything changed? What’s important to you and your partner? Current hobbies? Where else may you need assistance?
- We provide straight talk about how much Bay Area senior living costs vs. your particular finances. Do you qualify for additional resources?
- We facilitate all the details, including frequently checking in with you.
- We’re committed to working with you throughout the entire process by becoming a lifelong resource that advocates for our clients.
Our White-Glove Concierge-Level Approach
We drill down into the details of placement, including:
- Coordinating, scheduling, and meeting you for tours at communities that we recommend.
- Offering Physician’s Report 602 facilitation.
- Utilizing experienced Realtors on our team who specialize in senior living to assist the potential resident in selling their home.
- Recommending/facilitating dedicated movers who have experience in senior living and provide white-glove service.
- Synchronizing transportation, caregiver services, home health, attorneys, fiduciaries, and medical equipment you may need.
- Aligning assessments, physician’s orders, and move-in paperwork.
- Facilitating Moving Day: Ensuring that everything goes smoothly and that the family feels well supported; then following up with 1-, 6- and 12-month check-ins.
You Have Questions. We Have Answers.
What Makes Neighborly Senior Placement Different Vs. National Placement Agencies?
Nationwide referral services are, basically, lead aggregators with no local, on-the-ground experience specific to the San Francisco Bay Area. We have an extensive network of senior living colleagues at over 200 senior living communities throughout the Bay Area.
And we tackle each search with high energy and an urgency to get it done right. In 2023, we assisted over 100 families and anticipate doubling that number in 2024.

What Are The First Steps Of Your Placement Process?
Our journey starts with an initial call where we share information and get to know one another.
We offer details of our history with senior living communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We also give a few examples of the people we have placed over the years.
Next, is a needs assessment. What prompted you to start looking? What are your particular care needs? How will you pay for your new senior living community? We assist you in answering that particular question by analyzing your budget and your income sources such as Social Security, pensions, IRAs, etc. We explore whether you will need to sell your home or condo.
Then, we discuss care options and take a dive deep into your short- and long-term care needs, including physical problems (if any), mental acuity, medical conditions, medications, caregiver options, etc.
How Do We Find The Community That Best Matches Your Needs?
Once we have a list of which communities best match your needs and preferences, we schedule tours, meet you there in person, and introduce you to the Sales Director.
After these tours, we send a detailed email list of communities that we recommend. Once you have made your choice or choices, we send you the paperwork for a physical, medical history, and a TB test, all of which you will need before you can move in.
In addition, we help negotiate the move-in costs, arrange for a realtor, if needed, to sell your current property, and make referrals to a high-end moving company. We even call after the first night to ask how you’re feeling about your new community.
Finally, we reach out for a one-month, six-month, and one-year series of check-ins to make sure everything is going well.
How Do You Charge For Your Services?
Our concierge-level placement services are absolutely free to seniors and their families. The community that we help you select will pay Neighborly Senior Placement a percentage of the first month of their fees.
