Neighborly Senior Placement was honored to sponsor “The Human Brain: A Holistic Approach to Brain Health”. This Rotary Club of Belmont event at the Grand Bay Hotel in San Mateo was dedicated to advancing education and raising awareness about mental health, Alzheimer’s Disease, and dementia.

It was a day enriched with insightful presentations from distinguished speakers and provided a valuable opportunity for approximately 500 attendees to engage and connect with the community. The audience included students, nurses, social workers, community leaders, and the general public.

Facts You Should Know From The Alzheimer’s Association.

• An estimated 6.9 million Americans, 65 and older, are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2024
• Of the total U.S. population, about 1 in 9 people (10.9%) age 65 and older have Alzheimer’s dementia
• 73% are age 75 or older
• Alzheimer’s kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined

Recognizing The Early Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, this is a brain disease that causes a slow decline in memory, thinking, and reasoning skills. There are 10 early warning signs and symptoms — if you notice any of them, please schedule an appointment with your doctor:

• Memory loss that disrupts your daily life, such as forgetting someone’s name
• Challenges in planning or solving everyday problems like managing household bills
• Difficulty in completing familiar tasks, such as using the microwave or recording a TV program
• Confusion with time or place, like the day of the week
• Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships; cataracts may affect changes
• New problems with words in speaking or writing, such as delays in finding the right word
• Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace your steps
• Decreased or poor judgment, like neglecting to change the car’s oil
• Withdrawal from work or social activities, such as feeling uninterested in family obligations
• Changes in mood or personality, like becoming irritable when a routine is disrupted
